When considering a job ask how often the fleet trucks are replaced. Newer trucks can be more fuel efficient, and have less wear and tear damage on them. There is nothing worse for a JD Truck Training Centre driver than being stuck in a small town waiting for a simple repair to be made.
There are a lot of things to learn during this period and you will still need a lot of practice driving and maneuvering the truck. Driving school will give you the bases, but you are no way able to jump right into an 80000 pound vehicle all by yourself just yet.
3) You will need to enroll in a local Truck driving school. There are many schools available all over the country. The best place to start would be at your local community college, which may have a program for you to join. Driving a truck, especially an 18-wheeler is not something that you can just begin to do. If you don't like your experience and the students coming out of the school aren't satisfactory to the companies they go to work for then the school is going to die a long, slow death. Now second and lastly I like to talk about your Hr licence experience. Some of you may have already been in a truck and know what it is like. Others have not a clue what to expect and are eager to know. So breaking the ice of the unknown will greatly increases your chances of survival of going through the school of hard knocks.
In any case, CDL training in the yard might consist of spending hour upon hour practicing highly specific maneuvers on a course with cones and lines. Or it might be spent learning how to shift and turn and control your speed. It could even be something in between. It's all a matter which state you're in.
